Knox writes Shaw, secretary to President Adams, requesting that his son Henry, a lieutenant in the Navy, be assigned to the Frigate Constitution. Knox reminds Shaw that Knox already objected "verbally" to his son being assigned to the Boston. Shepard, Colonel of the 4th Massachusetts Regiment, informs Knox that a board of officers (one from each regiment) will meet at Major General [William] Heath's headquarters the following Wednesday at 10 am. The officers will discuss "the several resolves of Congress relative to Half Pay or other amoliments [sic] [emoluments] in lue there of and to state every matter concerning the officers of the line in order for a final settelment [sic] with the State on our behalf." Invites Knox to attend the meeting and provide his "counsel, assistance and influence." Docketed by Knox.

This letter told of the "extraordinary conduct of Mr. Honniwell" Knox says "Such conduct may renew again all the horrors of War." "Mr. Honniwell" refers to Israel Honeywell, a New York patriot militia leader. On May 16, 1783, three days after Sir Guy Carleton evacuated his troops from mainland New York, Honeywell led his men into Westchester where they robbed, beat, and otherwise terrorized Loyalist inhabitants. Wants to borrow a horse in order to travel to Boston: "As I have no other way of getting to Boston to see and provide for my family, & as we are disapointed in our expectations of receiving regular payments, they require my presence to point out some mode for their future support while I am in the service of my country."
