Wadsworth endorses s clerical copy of a letter from Major General Nathaniel P. Banks to Secretary of War Simon Cameron, with his own approval of the establishment of "Berdan's Sharpshooters." Banks recommends that "the Rifle shooters what Mr. Berdan proposes to organize" be made part of the military, and Wadsworth adds, "I entirely concur in the above - especially in view of the mode of warfare adopted by the rebels."

Over 200 letters from Sergeant Elmore to his wife, with an additional 60 from his wife. Highlights include pursuit of Lee's army after Gettysburg, the siege of Atlanta, Sherman's march to the sea, and other campaigns. Also includes several loose pages of an informal diary kept by Elmore during the March to the Sea, which he mailed home to his wife upon reaching Savannah. Elmore was discharged in July 1865.

A scathing column critical of the "Abolitionism and Niggerism of the Editor of the Journal." Page 2 contains a copy of the Confederate Constitution, divided into 7 articles. Page 2 is dominated by a 4.5 column printing of a speech on the loan bill by Ohio Congressman Clement L. Vallandigham from 10 July 1861.

Contains two letters to N. R. Chapman, who served as secretary for an Anti-Slavery Society in the Onondaga/Madison County region of New York (refer to GLC06593.20). Contains a Civil War soldier's letter noting the fall of Atlanta. Includes numerous resolutions related to the Anti-Slavery Society (possibly of which Chapman was affiliated). Anti-slavery documents mention abolitionists Gerrit Smith and James Caleb Jackson, the mutiny on board the Brig Creole (GLC06593.09), and the need to form a Liberty Party (GLC06593.20).

Outlines the cession of Ottawa land in Ohio, the establishment of a reservation, and the remuneration that will be owed. Probably a working draft prior to sending to printer.

Lincoln authorizes a treaty with the Northwestern Bands of Shoshonee Indians dated July 30, 1863. The treaty was made at Box Elder, Utah Territory. Brigadier General P. Edward Connor, commander of the military district of Utah, and Commissioner James Duane Doty, governor and acting superintendent of Indian affairs in Utah Territory, represented the United States. A chief named Pokatello led several chiefs representing the Shoshonee. The treaty secured peace, upheld the July 2, 1863 Treaty of Fort Bridger, increased the band's annuity, and stated the boundaries of the band's territory.
