Wilson writes to Reverend Flinn. Acknowledges a letter concerning Wilson's father: "It really gives me very deep comfort to hear such word about my father from those who really knew and appreciated him." Also replies that he does not know much about George's studies and preparations for teaching. Wilson has crossed out "Flynn" and inserted the correct spelling, "Flinn."

Title: [Memorial ribbon and explanatory note]

The ribbon is pinned across the top of an explanatory note entitled "Jefferson Davis Memorial Badge," written by J. W. Flinn. The note indicates that the Flinn wore the ribbon at South Carolina' memorial service for Jefferson Davis. The note mourns the "dead President of the dead Confederacy," describes his himself as "a native of Mississippi -- a member of the 17th Mississippi Regiment and a personal friend of Jefferson Davis and of the Cause for which her [Nellie Flinn's] father fought & bled."

The committee was formed in response to reports of waste. Comments on the efforts of a Mr. Allen to have negative parts of the report pertaining to the fifth article removed. Discusses the reading of a confidential letter to the committee by John Holmes that was critical of the expenditures, which Crafts made a copy of (see GLC05634.03). Discusses several problems with the enterprise, being at odds with government agents, and the various suggestions he made. Submits his ideas for Holmes to make use of as he sees fit and asks they be kept confidential. Fears becoming a scapegoat. Title: [Resolution of the Select Committee on the execution of the Treaty of Ghent]

Copy of a declaration including a letter in the report of the Select Committee investigating the expenditures made in the execution of the part of the Treaty of Ghent fixing the boundary line between Maine and Canada. The letter, written by Charles Turner, was critical of the execution of the treaty (see GLC05634.03). Also resolves "That the Select Committee be discharged from further considering the said report." Addressed to Cornelius P. Van Ness in Burlington, Vermont.

Title: [Discussion and resolution pertaining the fifth and seventh articles of the Treaty of Ghent]

Discusses executing the fifth article of the Treaty of Ghent, which pertained to establishing a United States-Canada border and the expenses associated with it. Concludes that the analysis is preliminary but recommends a resolution requesting that the president "arrange with the British government some mode of designating the boundary line, under the 5 & 7 articles of the treaty of Ghent, which shall require less time and expense, than the one which the Commissioners have heretofore pursued."

Title: [Commentary on Charles Turner's 26 March 1818 confidential letter to John Holmes]

Indicates that William C. Bradley, an agent of the United States under the treaty of Ghent to fix the boundary line between Maine and Canada, sought an explanation for Charles Turner's implication of him in his letter to John Holmes (see GLC05634.03). Reports that Turner claimed his comments were not in reference to Bradley.
