" Addressed the letter to "General George Knox," instead of Henry.

Says he was acquainted with William Knox in Dublin. Tells Henry he was for many years a merchant with extensive trade. Has since had troubles in business and left his wife and daughter behind in Ireland to make another fortune in Jamaica. Arrived on the island in December 1791 with letters of recommendation from Dublin and landed a clerks position with a salary of 160 pounds per annum. Wants to be able to return to his family or bring them to Jamaica and asks Knox for employment that is not degrading. Relates his lineage. See GLC02437.05889 for a copy of the letter.

Says her enjoyment is clouded by her fear Henry will be exposed to the yellow fever. Expresses displeasure at the thought of their continued separation. Reports that "an express arrived here yesterday for Dr. Stevens to attend Colo. Hamilton supposed in the yellow fever." Tells him to remember his promise not to return to Philadelphia. Asks about Augusta (possibly Augusta Dearborn, daughter of Henry Dearborn). "Free" stamped on address leaf with no signature.

Says it is has been reported "that the Indians were victorious and had brought Forty Scalps into Detroit - that the savages had collected about Wayne's encampment to the number of 1200…" Believes Wayne's army is strong enough to meet the "savages" but he is concerned over supplies.
