Kempt characterizes their complaints as groundless, and asks for Winchester's comments. He warns that these two officers must attend the requisite meetings with him, or they will risk forfeiting their parole.

The men have written to Col. Gardner for assistance, but have heard nothing from him. The officers imprisoned with them have donated some of their own funds, but money is now running out.
