Roosevelt thanks him for his letter and writes, "I have received your letter in reference to the friars; and as it evidently proceeds from an entire misunderstanding of the facts, I take pleasure in reciting them to you." Fox was a member of the Holy Name Society, Church of St. Catherine of Siena, New York, who in mid July had sent resolutions of his society to Roosevelt protesting the banishment of friars from the Philippines.
