Title: [Authority to affix the seal to treaty with Northwestern Shoshonee Indians].
Lincoln authorizes a treaty with the Northwestern Bands of Shoshonee Indians dated July 30, 1863. The treaty was made at Box Elder, Utah Territory. Brigadier General P. Edward Connor, commander of the military district of Utah, and Commissioner James Duane Doty, governor and acting superintendent of Indian affairs in Utah Territory, represented the United States. A chief named Pokatello led several chiefs representing the Shoshonee. The treaty secured peace, upheld the July 2, 1863 Treaty of Fort Bridger, increased the band's annuity, and stated the boundaries of the band's territory.
