Apologizes for all the trouble he is giving Bingham, but says that sometimes, "the fate of individuals and their families depend upon the interference and support of a single friend."

Mentions other business associates such as Mr. [Joseph] Anthony and Mr. [Samuel] Hodgdon. The second letter, to Mr. Hammond, asks for further accommodations so he might take enough time to get his finances in order before paying Hammond and Colonel [William Stephens] Smith the money he owes them.
