At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Issue number two of the comic book called Negro Heroes. This comic features biographies of famous and influential African Americans. This issue is also called the summer issue. The people featured in this issue are, Booker T. Washington, the men of the 784th Tank Battalion, Toussaint L'Overture, Mabel K. Staupers, Jackie Robinson, Sadie T. M. Alexander, and Sugar Chile Robinson. Each person has a few pages dedicated to their story.
