At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The last will and testament of Nannie Harvey. She bequeaths all of her property, personal and otherwise, to her niece, Cordelia Williams. She also declares Cordelia as her executrix. It is signed by Nannie James Harvey, as well as Henretta E. Williams, Gertrude M. Williams, and Willmer F. Dillard, who were all witnesses to the will's creation.
