At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Concerns the cession of Pottawatamie reservation land in Indiana, their removal, and the remuneration they will receive. Authorized by President Andrew Jackson. Treaty arranged by Abel C. Pepper, Commissioner on the part of the United States, and the leaders of the Pottawatamie on 26 March 1836 (and ratified on 4 June 1836).
