At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The Negative from which this was taken will be kept in our possession for one month; then, if requested, will be sent to Bonsall's Photograph Gallery, No. 14 West Fifth St. Cincinnati, O., where copies like this can be had at any time by sending the No. of the Negative."
