At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses changes in the number and arrangement of field commissaries, quartermasters, and conductors. Comments on the usefulness of the Deputy Commissary of Military Stores at West Point, especially regarding distribution of artillery materials throughout New York State. Includes a list of the distribution of commissaries and conductors. A note in the hand of Samuel Shaw on page three states that a return of stores from the department of field commissary of military stores is enclosed.
