At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Outlines the purpose of the company: "recovering Horses stolen within our District, and detecting and prosecuting the Thieves." Contains an illustration of two men on horseback shooting at another man on horseback, presumably a horse thief, at the top of the page. A previous assessment of this document estimated the date of creation to be 1840. Has a patterned border.
