At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Also signed by William Lane, Ann Lane, Sarah Bennett, Susannah Bennett, James McLellan, and Joseph Summirl. Describes the location of a parcel of land in the borough of Wilmington in the County of New Castle, Delaware, that Alice Bennett obtained by indenture land on 22 August 1782. Bennet made improvements upon the land, and when she died intestate the buildings passed onto to Ann, Sarah, and Susanna Bennett. Officiates the sale of the land and its improvements from William Lane, his wife Ann Bennett in addition to Sarah and Susanna Bennett to James McClellan for 750 pounds gold or sterling on 14 July 1788. Broom and Summirl were witnesses to the signatures. Broom served as the recorder.
