Pennington, from 107 Hillen Street in Old Town, Baltimore, issues a ten dollar reward for James Edward Grey, an apprentice indentured in the collar and harness business. Describes Grey as being of light complexion, light hair, and between 18 and 19 years old. When he ran on away Sunday, 30 May, Grey was wearing a slouch hat, frock coat, cloth vest, calico shirt with red spots, and black pantaloons. Grey was last seen on Wednesday, 2 June.

Eliza, age twenty-nine, and son Sam, sixteen months, were sold on condition that Eliza be freed on Ann Payne's death and that Sam be freed at the age of 28. Signed by Payne with her mark. Second page is Lewis Carbery's autograph endorsement signed, attesting to the sale as justice of the peace. Docket signed by Jonathan A. Smith.

Discusses military plans, keeping personal news to a minimum. Possibly Hopping's last letter home, as he died in Mier, Mexico on1 September 1847.

Countersigned by Acting Secretary of State William Henry Trescot. Day was convicted in July, 1852. Buchanan pardoned Day near the end of his sentence for his valuable assistance to the wardens in maintaining order in the penitentiary. Day's service was attested to by Warden C. P. Sengstack, previous wardens I.B. Ellis and Thomas Thornley, and on the report of District Attorney Robert Ould. 2 black and white bust engravings of James Buchanan included.
