Hardee, William Joseph, 1815-1873
Autograph letter signed
Title: to Sterling Alexander Martin Wood
Confederate General Hardee discusses the impending battle of Corinth. Explains that his sickness, and "the possibility that I might be unable to command this army corps," makes establishing a chain of succession vital. He thanks Wood for relinquishing his claim to command to Bushrod Johnson. Hardee then commanded the 3rd Corps, Army of the Mississippi.
