Title: Diary as secret US agent re: negotiations at Ghent, meetings, confidences
Shaler's diary from Ghent where he served temporarily on the Peace Commission while on his way to Algiers to negotiate a treaty. Shaler gained the confidence of Henry Clay, who relayed to him the negotiating positions of both sides. The book does not include his service in Algiers.
