Rensselaer, an Albany storekeeper, reports that arms (likely ordered by Knox) "are all pack'd up in Boxes According to your orders and ready for Transportation on the Shortest Notice The swords in my possession I shall have put in order as soon as possible..." Promises to send the swords to John Ruddock, Deputy Quartermaster of Stores at Fishkill, New York. Encloses a return of the arms (not included) he issued during the month of October, and an inventory of what remains in the store.

Appears to be collected information about clothiers and commissaries. Mentions James Wilkinson, Clothier General at Philadelphia in 1779 and Otis and Henley, clothiers in Boston. Notes, "About this time- shoes were provided for the army by Exchanging hides with shoe makers all over the Country- for what purpose Commissaries of hides were appointed- this business was extensive, and irregularly preformed some returns are here, of the Commissaries but very little information can be collected from them. Title: Statement of the troops furnished by the following States, taken from actual returns of the army for the year 1779.

Includes two charts. The first indicates, "MArch 9th 1779 Congress resolved that the Infantry of these States for the next campaign, be composed of 80 battalions." Lists states and corresponding quotas and required troops for 1779. Lists numbers of men furnished, separated by Continental troops and militia. Includes total number of Continental troops and militia. Second chart contains an estimate of militia employed in addition to those cited in the first chart. Title: [10th Massachusetts regiment clothing account book]

Written from camp at Westpoint, Philipsburg, and Pigskill (possibly Peekskill) New York. Notes shoes, clothing, and blankets supplied to each of the soldiers over the course of the year. Contains signatures of the enlisted men with x marks, indicating illiteracy. A section of pages in the middle has been cut out. Book is bound. Dated April 21, 1781-October 1781.

Cotton reports to Major General Joseph Spencer that some boatmen refused to obey orders in a "mutinous manner." Cotton asks that Spencer try the men because the crime is of too high a nature for him to try them himself. The men's names are included in the letter. The verso of the letter contains instructions on how returns should be made.
