Says "I have understood there is now authority for that purpose."

Written by Lieutenant Colonel Antill to Major General Knox. Returns an enclosed provision order (not included) for rations for his family. Asks him to sign and return it by the bearer of this letter. Says "this form I made has been purused ever since the contract, the second in command to sign these kind of Extra Issues." Says General Heath signed his paperwork last month. The letter is marked as having been sent express. There are several dates on this document, but the 7th was chosen, and Knox's reply at GLC02437.02247 was on 7 July 1783.

Marked "Copy." Top half of the document is a copy of Lt. Col. Antill's request for provisions for 31 days for "five canadian refugees." Asks for 155 rations. Bottom half of the document says that the "above provision" is for his family. Knox gives permission for the contractors to issue the rations.

Asks the commissary, James Forsyth, to issue rations for Thomas Nelson, his wife, and 2 children from 16-31 of July. Says that Nelson is a furloughed man from the Massachusetts artillery who was detained by the sickness of his wife. Nelson signed the docket stating that 64 rations were delivered to him.

Order issued by General Knox's aide-de-camp Major Shaw for West Point Commissary James Forsyth to issue seven days worth of rations for three British deserters "to carry them to Philadelphia." It appears that Shaw was reusing paper, as a few lines of poetry are written on the verso of this document.

Knox, Secretary of War, replies to a 10 April letter from Biddle. Discusses "furnishing the Pennsylvania quota of troops with rations," noting that he wrote a public letter to Biddle on the same topic (this letter is marked "private" on the docket). Writes, "I wish the business would be worthy of your attention- The treasury are so poor that they cannot make other payments than by warrants." Regrets that he can not assist Biddle more in the matter. Noted as "a copy" on the docket.
