S he Gilder Lehrman Institute sponsors history schools and Saturday academies nationwide. History schools can be public, parochial, or independent schools, but all receive systematic academic support and targeted supplemental funding. History schools have proven measurably successful in improving academic performance, raising test scores, and increasing the percentage of seniors going on to college. Programming and educational resources are also available to the Institute's network of affiliate schools. The Institute also partners with school districts applying for Teaching American History Grants. Our comprehensive resources have been an important component of successful grant applications.

Students at history high schools and middle schools take at least one course every semester in American history for all four years. The history curriculum emphasizes use of primary sources and is integrated with literature and the arts. The curriculum is supplemented and supported by special lectures, visits to historic sites locally or in cities such as Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, and teacher seminars, all provided by the Institute. Schools who wish to participate at other levels can join our affiliate schools program.
