| INSTITUTE TEAMS UP
TO OPEN NEW HISTORY HIGH SCHOOL IN PHILADELPHIA On September 7th, the School District of Philadelphia will open Constitution High School, a new magnet school created in partnership with the National Constitution Center and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. The school will be the Institute’s first history school in Pennsylvania and will feature a curriculum grounded in American history, law, and government. Students set to attend the school gathered on July 20th to choose the school’s colors, mascot, and motto. The Gilder Lehrman Institute currently sponsors 31 history schools nationwide. These schools are rigorous, college-preparatory schools centered on American history. They have a track record of raising test scores and sending more than 90 percent of graduating seniors to college. At the core of these schools is a four-year sequence of courses in American history. In many of these schools, the entire student body participates in the Gilder Lehrman program. In other schools, a select portion of the student body participates. ____
