New Orleans students attend Gilder Lehrman Institute Saturday Academy of American History

On January 27th, 2007, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History opened a Saturday Academy of American History in New Orleans. The academy, a partnership with the Algiers Charter Schools Association, is open to middle school and high school students in New Orleans and offers free elective courses on Saturday mornings. This semester, course offerings include: World War II, The Civil War, The American Civil Rights Movement, and Geography and Technology.

The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History has offered Saturday Academies of American History since 2002. In 2006, the Institute offered 19 academies to middle school and high school students in California, Florida, Kansas, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Wisconsin. In all, nearly 3,000 students attended the academies, representing 178 schools.
