Exhibitions of original material from the Gilder Lehrman Collection afford students, teachers, and the public firsthand views of rare documents and artifacts, selected and interpreted by professional curators and historians. Exhibitions to date have featured letters and manuscripts of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln, as well as battlefield letters, personal diaries, and other material illuminating the lives of ordinary Americans.

The Institute produces traveling versions of its institutional exhibitions, using facsimiles of materials from the Gilder Lehrman Collection, to reach national audiences via schools, libraries, and other historical and cultural sites.
