Theodorus Frelinghuysen

Theodorus Frelinghuysen (1691–ca. 1747) was a Dutch Reformed minister and revivalist leader during a period often referred to as the Great Awakening. Frelinghuysen immigrated to North America in 1719 and served as a pastor to several congregations in New Jersey.He clashed with the local clergy over the church’s formality and message. Emphasizing piety over orthodoxy, Frelinghuysen’s itinerant influence was felt throughout the Middle Colonies, earning him a prominent place among other revivalist leaders such as George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards.
