he Institute aims to support historians in their scholarly, pedagogical,
and professional endeavors. Fellowships fund research in the Gilder
Lehrman Collection and other major archives in New York City, and
book prizes sponsored by the Institute reward outstanding scholarship.
Through its multimedia publications, the Institute makes rare documents
accessible for scholarly scrutiny and classroom use. The Institute
also offers seminars and other programs to promote effective teaching,
as well as resources to encourage scholarly and professional exchange.
