Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses the hurricane season and other extreme weather conditions in Antigua, such as a lengthy drought which caused cattle to die from want of drink. Speaks briefly about the natural features of the island that she does like. Explains her hope to visit America to see Lucy and her family, as well as her own apparently ailing father. Provides extensive news about other family members. Wishes Henry Knox and the children well.

Sarah Lyons Flucker was the wife of Lucy Knox's brother, Captain Thomas Flucker. She got remarried, after Captain Flucker's death, to Bon-Albert Briois de Beaumez, circa 1796.
