Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs the Hobarts that Joab Cooper has sent them to collect money owed through a note dated 30 March 1816. Mentions that Cooper has deducted a certain amount from the note and expects to be paid the difference. Possibly related to the support of a church in Hanover, New Hampshire.
