Recommends that Brigadier General John W. Geary be promoted for his service in the Battle of Wauhatchie. Endorsement on the verso signed by generals Ulysses S. Grant, Joseph Hooker, George H. Sir:
I have the honor to call your attention to the distinguished services rendered by Brigadier General John W. Geary in the battle of Wauhatchie, and during the late operations of the Army, which resulted in the defeat and discomfiture of the rebel army, under General Bragg, and to request that he be promoted to the rank of Major General.
In the former, my official report will acquaint you with the character of the services of this meritorious officer. During our subsequent operations they will be presented still more prominently to the Government.
Of his former services in the Army of the Potomac I need not speak - they are favorably known to you and the country.

He has performed most conspicuous services on two occasions since joining this army viz Repulsing the enemy on the night of the 28.th Oct. when attacked by greatly superior numbers, and in conducting the assault of the enemy's position on the point of Lookout Mountain made by his Division on the 24.th November On both occasions he was distinguished for his gallantry & good conduct -
