Signed in text. Sends his compliments to Henry Knox and his wife, and expresses his regret that "the great hurry of Business alone prevents him from waiting on them before he leaves this Country to return his thanks for their polite attention to him at West Point." Noted as written "From His Brittanic Majesty's Ship Assurance in Hudson's River." (See GLC02437.02793 for Knox's reply)

Sir Edmund Affleck was a British naval officer and served as a lieutenant, master and commander, post captain, and commodore. For services rendered to his country, King George III made him a baronet of Britain and the people of Colchester elected him to represent them in Parliament. He also attained his flag rank, but was never employed afloat as an admiral.
