Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Possibly written to Benjamin Church. Apparently incomplete, this part being the conclusion. Arnold closes by addressing "Gentlemen." He expresses his dismay at Congress' plan to abandon Fort Ticonderoga, "which being the only post of this country, leaves our very extensive frontier open to the ravages of the enemy ... " Writes that he has 150 men and expects to have his regiment complete soon.
