Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Conner expresses that he "is blue and home sick altho that will pass off soon." He also says that he "had rather be at home with my loves ones. than to own the hole world. and that no joke." Conner hopes to send a picture of him and Jonas soon, but tells Nueal that it will be quite a while until she gets it. He sends his love and closes the letter.
