Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Indicates that a letter with enclosures Representative Hobart sent to the Secretary of War has been forwarded to the Auditor's Office. The letter regarded the payments sue to Edward Morton for boats and arms supplied. Explains pertinent regulations relating to making the payment. Hagmer identifies himself as an auditor. Written from the Treasury Department.
