Reverend Suddards, Chairman of the Office of the Committee on Labor, Income, and Revenue, transmits a letter to Reverend Murray requesting his donation of one day's salary, income, or revenue for benefit of the Great Central Sanitary Fair. Printed on stationery of the Office on Labor, Income, and Revenue. Accompanied by an illustrated Great Central Fair for the Sanitary Commission envelope signed and free franked by John W. Forney, Secretary of the Senate. Others listed as members of the Committee on Labor include Alonzo Potter (Protestant Episcopalian, Bishop), James F. Wood (Roman Catholic, Bishop), Matthew Simpson (Methodist Episcopalian, Bishop), E. W. Hutter (Lutheran), Thomas Brainerd (Presbyterian), A. Atwood (Methodist Episcopalian), Thomas De Witt Talmage (Dutch Reformed), and R. Jeffery (Baptist).
The Great Central Fair for the United States Sanitary Commission opened in June 1864 in Logan Square, Philadelphia. The Fair was held to raise funds for Union soldiers in need of basic necessities and medical supplies.
