Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Tabulates the debts of the department under General Nathanael Greene. Explains difficulties collecting the information and comments on his findings at length.

Pettit was assistant Quartermaster-General of the Continental Army from 1778-1781. A reference in the document indicates this was written at the earliest in 1780.
