Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Letter thanking his aunt for sending him a newspaper article. It was written by a Dr. Brauch, whose writing Mr. Harper takes quite an interest in. There is no clue as to exactly why, excepting his comment that he will keep the article "with some other things I love-little mementos of the past."
