Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Sale of land in Hadley, Massachusetts. The agreement being made between the Whites, Daniel and his wife Sarah, and Thomas Meakins's executor Samuel Partrigg, Justice of the Peace. Witnessed by Stephen Belding, Samuel Hornblom, and John [illegible]. Sarah signed with an "X" as her mark. Two red wax seals still extent next to signatures.
