Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Report concerning a settlement on the St. Georges River and the relationship between the Indians and Samuel Waldo. Includes several notes stating that the above letter is a true copy, signed by Cutter and also includes a note of witness signed by John Powell and dated 17 May 1738.
