Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to her niece Lucy Flucker Knox (daughter of Henry and Lucy Knox) informing her that she received her letter from Shrewsbury. Mentions being in Boston, and discusses the weather and mutual acquaintances.

Sarah Lyons Flucker was the wife of Lucy Knox's brother, Captain Thomas Flucker. She got remarried, after Captain Flucker's death, to Bon-Albert Briois de Beaumez, circa 1796.
