States that Mr. Denniston has applied to him for boards but that he is unable to purchase any. Plans on pulling down buildings at Wappings [Wappingers] Creek to use for board. Teams will haul the wood to the Point [West Point]. Mentions in the postscript that there are five travelling forges at Newburgh that he is reluctant to sell because they are "particularly related to the artillery."

Newburgh Octr. 30. 1783.
Sir,
Mr. Denniston has applied to me for 1200 boards. It is impossible for me to purchase any. There are some buildings at Wappings Creek which I had reserved to be pulled down for contingent uses. These boards tho' cut in pieces, will be adequate to most of the purposes for which boards are wanted at the Point, & with a parcel of new board which I expect to obtain at this place for some old buildings, will I believe amount to seven or eight hundred.
I think as many as four public teams may go from hence to work at the Point in hauling wood; & there are four now there. I have also told Mr. Denniston to hire such teams as shall present at six shillings per cord.
I am sir your most obedt. servt.

[2] P.S. There are here five travelling forges. Some people would purchase them for the sake of the carriages: but they are particularly related to the artillery; & I have forborne to sell them. I will thank you for your opinion about them. Perhaps it may be best to separate to iron work peculiar to forges, & sell the residence.
T.P.
