Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Provision return for one man discharged from the Massachusetts Corps of Artillery from 11-20 August. A total of ten rations was issued over the ten days. Signed by Edward Blake, a quartermaster of artillery, and Lillie as an aide-de-camp to General Knox. Docket signed by Silas Barber stating that contractors delivered the rations.
