Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Weare signs as Chairman of the New Hampshire Committee of Safety. Prisoner transfer document to the keeper of the jail in Hillsborough County. Includes names of Tory prisoners from New York who were "violently disaffected with the Measures pursuing by the American States" that are being moved to New Hampshire. Also includes instructions to the keeper on what to do with the prisoners.
