At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The report "Operations against Charleston," is only the first of several reports sent to the U.S. Senate in this bound volume. The others include: Operations in the Gulf Department, Trade Regulations, Battle of Cedar Mountain with testimony by General Nathaniel P. Banks, Treatment of Prisoners, Treatment of Prisoners, Treatment of Rebel Prisoners, Exchange of Prisoners, and Administration of the Department of Arkansas. Has green wrapper cover, which seems to be original.
