The Alamo was a Franciscan mission and the site of a battle between Texas revolutionaries and Mexican forces during the Texas Revolution in December 1836. While the Texas rebels, led by William Barrett Travis, managed to hold off the Mexican attack for some time, the Mexican army ultimately succeeded in its siege, and Mexican leader Santa Anna executed the Texian survivors. Later in the Texas Revolution, the Alamo was used as an inspiration for Texas troops. In April 1836, Sam Houston’s Texans shouted the battle cry, “Remember the Alamo!”...
